Stainless Steel Plate Polishing and Fabrication: An Overview

As we dive into this quick overview of stainless steel plate polishing and fabrication, we need to first consider what the polishing and fabrication process looks like. This first step is crucial before we can begin explaining all there is to know about the process of fabricating and polishing stainless steel plates.

What Is the Polishing and Fabrication Stage?

We find stainless steel in many industries. However, without either polishing or fabrication, we’re left with products and buildings that aren’t durable. The material would be considered more of a coated aluminum or steel without polishing and fabrication.

The polishing step consists of using a specialty cream to help bring out the shine on the surface of a meta, giving it a mirror-like appearance. In a way, we can compare polishing to buffing the exterior of an automobile to help coat and bring out the best shine in the exterior.

As for fabrication, this step helps bring the final product to life. Fabricating brings stainless steel through different methods, such as blanking and forming. Since the material is flexible, it often gets shaped into metal tubing for architectural purposes.

How To Polish Stainless Steel

Stainless steel can be polished in many different ways, but it needs to be cleaned with one solution at a time to deliver the best results. For example, to clear away dirt and grease, you need to use soap and water. Then, spray a mixture of vinegar and ammonia onto the polished piece and let it sit for five minutes.

Once finished, the workers wipe the surface down, removing any spots with a harsh ground quartz pad. Then, experts place a liquid polish on the stainless steel products, laying it evenly and clearing it off with a cloth rag. The cloth helps buff away streaks. Finally, they polish the product with a grinder on a slow setting.

What’s Needed for Polishing?

The following tools are needed for polishing stainless steel products. The first item you need is a burnisher; the burnisher removes rust and scratches and leaves hands clean. Next, you need a polishing paste; the paste helps make products look new.

How To Fabricate Stainless Steel

Fabricating stainless steel comes in four different processes. The first process is cutting; cutting allows users to saw, shear, or chisel a stainless steel plate before torching. The torching method involves using torches that come with plasma or oxy-fuel.

Next comes bending; as mentioned above, workers hammer and press the material to bend it into the desired shape, size, or length. Finally, there’s assembling; assembling involves binding the metal, threading, or welding pieces together.

Our brief overview of stainless steel plate polishing and fabrication gives you the information you need about each process. As you explore more about fabricated and polished stainless steel sheets, don’t forget to dream up your next big project with fabricated metals.
