ASME BPVC Certification: What To Know Before You Outsource

Nov 01, 2021

According to the ASME BPVC certification, you need some certification to manufacture anything. Here’s a guide on what to know before you outsource any pressure vessel products.

Certified Standard Pressure Vessels

Before processing orders or shipping through third parties, you must ensure that the standard pressure vessels meet the requirements under Division 1, section VIII of the BPVC. Additionally, for the standard pressure vessel to manufacture anything, it needs to have the U branded on the side of the vessel, which states the name and address of the fabricator. There’s also a renewal date stamp that expires in three years from posted date.

For the pressure vessel to receive the U-mark, it needs to be thoroughly inspected by an ASME inspector. As long as the fabricator can perform the appropriate manufacturing skills and perform outstanding quality, it meets ASME standards

Certified Miniature Pressure Vessels

If you check under section U-1(j) in ASME VIII and do an overview of the requirements and note the smaller size, you’d classify it as a small pressure vessel. However, the size doesn’t excuse the process of certifying to use it for fabricating. For the miniature pressure vessel to meet the requirements and receive approval through ASME, it needs a UM certification.

Repairing Pressure Vessels

To make repairs on pressure vessels, you need the R-stamp on the pressure vessel nameplate. Additionally, if a pressure vessel fabricator in your workplace wants to improve themselves, they also need certification. For a pressure vessel fabricator to meet requirements and get permission to fix a pressure vessel, they must earn an authorization certificate from the National Board of Boiler and Pressure Vessel Inspectors.

As you improve the quality of pressure vessels, it’s vital to understand what to know before you outsource any pressure vessel products.
